Llwyngychwydd
A hill farm worked by the Watkins family since 1947. The grazing area is actually made up of the smallholdings Blaengwennol, Caemelin, Alltwenau and Llwyngychwydd. The 350 acres is a mix of unimproved hill, semi improved slopes, oak woodlands and riverside meadows. The farm has been farmed traditionally within the ESA framework for twenty years and all the stock are farm assured. Ranging from 850ft by the side of the Irfon river to 1400ft on the top of the enclosed hill, which is part of the Cambrian mountain range, the flock has a varied diet of grass and herbs. The breed of the sheep are predominately Hardy Speckled a good mothering hill type producing lambs 9-13 kilo deadweight. Whilst slower growing than lowland breeds the taste of these lambs make up for the reduced weight.
